New Voices Ancient Words:
Dramatic Adaptations of Scripture
Compact Disk

Rev. Caroline Fairless' experience
while producing this CD...

Have you ever had the experience of designing something, planning it to the best of your ability, executing it, and discovering that somewhere along the process, the Spirit of God stepped right in and turned that dream into a holy and sacred graceful enterprise that you had neither asked nor imagined?

That was CAW’s experience with the recording of the CD, New Voices/Ancient Texts: Dramatic Adaptations of Scripture.

The project was conceived in Roanoke, Virginia, by CAW staff Caroline Fairless and Jim Sims. Fairless and Sims financed a three cut “demo” CD, with thanks to recording engineer Charlie Hammill and his Dynamic Sound studio. With thanks also to the eight young people from St. John’s Church who sang and read and rapped.

The demo CD was sent to Church Publishing, Inc., the publisher of Caroline’s book, Children at Worship: Congregations in Bloom, with these questions. “Do you think this kind of project might make a good companion to the book, and are you willing to fund it and produce it?”

Yes, came the response, and the project began in earnest.

By the project’s end, close to fifty people, mostly young people but several adults as well, had given their best to this project. Recorded in Rochester, N.Y. through the world class Linden Oaks Studios, this CD will change the way you think about everything!

You will come to know that whatever you think is not possible, is, indeed possible. You will come to know that people who cannot sing, can sing. You will come to know that people with no acting or dramatic experience whatsoever can read scripture in such a way that it will sink deep into your heart.

You will be changed.

We were changed. We are still being changed. It is a holy piece. It is far greater than any of us had anticipated. There is heart and soul and faith cut through this CD and if ever you have doubts as to whether or not young people ought and need to be an integrated part of your regular worship community, this will lay those doubts to rest!

You may purchase it from Church Publishing, Inc., as a companion to the book, or you may buy it to stand alone. Give it to everybody you know.

We are so thankful to all those who gave of themselves to make this glorious music!
